Sudip Kumar Kundu
Sudip Kumar Kundu is currently a PhD Scholar under Energy and Environment Programme (EEP) in National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), IISc campus, Bengaluru.
His doctoral research is on “Assessment of the socio-economic impacts of Potential Fishing Zone (PFZ) and Ocean State Forecast (OSF) advisories for Odisha State, India”. This thesis contributes to the Ministry of Earth Science’s (MoES) Project, “To Understand the Interaction between the components of Earth and Human Systems at various Spatial and Temporal Scales”.
His area of interests includes the following: Assessment of socio-economic impacts of PFZ and OSF advisories, Global fishery advisory services, Geospatial analyses of multi-platform datasets related to the preparation of fishery advisories, Assessing the effects on the marine environment due to the usages of fishery advisories, Illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing in the ocean, Marine fishing population welfare; Rainfall pattern analysis from climate models and satellite-derived estimates, Climate data analysis, Understanding the relationship of Indian Summer Monsoon with large scale phenomena, IOD, ENSO etc., Changing pattern of rainfall under climate change scenarios, etc.
During 2018-19, he had worked at the Centre for Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, IISc on a project titled “Understanding ENSO-Monsoon Relationship in a changing climate through Atmospheric structure”. This project was supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST).
He has an MTech degree (Distinction) from Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun in Remote Sensing and GIS with specialization in Marine and Atmospheric Sciences. Apart from this, he has a BSc (Honours) in Geography with Mathematics and Physics as general subjects from Chandernagore College under The University of Burdwan.
He has also participated and presented more than seven papers in different National/International level seminars, conferences, and workshops across the country.
He has also qualified for the UGC NET Lectureship (LS) in the subject Geography in 2018. He also has a passion for sports, with special interests in cricket and badminton. He is also a marathon runner!
