Abstract: Antarctica is a pristine continent, bigger than the North America (including Mexico), the coldest place on the Earth and hiding secrets of evolution from the time it separated from Gondwana, some 200 million Years ago. While it offers challenges of exploration, science and survival, it is one of the symbol of technology advances and our overall strength. Governed by Antarctica treaty and numerous coordinating bodies on various issues, the geopolitics of Antarctica is complex interplay of exploration, science, tourism economy and long term strategic interests. India has played a key role in exploration, science and in various policy matters related to Antarctica, carries out one of the most robust scientific program at Antarctica. The lecture will address some of these issues and bring an overall Indian perspective
